Published over 2 years ago • 4 min read

Hi everyone! My name is Felix and I am a 16 y/o who loves to learn. I am interested in technology, so spoiler alert most of my newsletters will have something to do with tech :) but also anything to do with self-improvement. Every month I will write about what I have done, learned or enjoyed doing.

Wassuppp peeps! The beginning of a new month is here, you know what that means, newsletter time! Happy New Year to everyone! This month's topics are:

    • Second replicate
    • More podcasts

Feel free to skip around and read what you find interesting :)

Personal

Website

I built a personal website for all the cool sh*t I make :) check it out here! Any feedback is much appreciated.

Podcasts

Listened

We need between seven and nine hours of sleep a night. Less than six hours of sleep affects your energy, time to exhaustion, the chance of injury, and ultimately shortens your lifespan.

Temperature, regularity (going to bed at the same time every night), diet, and darkness are the most important for deep, restful sleep.

Sleep is the elixir of life. It is the most widely available and democratic powerful healthcare system I could ever possibly imagine.
- Mathew Walker

To Listen

The podcasts I started this month but couldn't finish thanks to exams.

Jiu-Jitsu

Ya boy did it! I passed my green belt exam! It definitely wasn't easy. Next up blue belt!

Can't hurt me - David Goggins

Master your mind and defy the odds.
- David Goggins

The mind is the most powerful asset you've got. Without a strong mind, you won't achieve much. This relates to the callusing your mind which I've talked about in previous newsletters.

This mf ran 100 miles with no preparation and a seriously intense leg day the day before. How you may ask? I have no clue, to be honest. He argues that he mastered his mind. It doesn't matter how hard it is, he'll do it.

At the seventy-mile mark, he had cracked toenails, broken blisters, and blood streaming from his feet. He also saw bloody piss leak down his leg and as if that was not enough, he shit his pants.

What did he do? He took a 20-minute break, saw everyone pass him and then ran the 30 miles needed to finish the 100-mile race.

Sure, it wasn't healthy what he did, he went to the ER afterwards. But thanks to his sheer f***ing willpower and determination, he did the impossible. So can you!

TKS

Decentralised lottery system

I finished my first replicate project as promised in my last newsletter! A replicate project is basically just us replicating something that someone else has already done. That way we learn and get used to the field.

So what did I replicate? A decentralised lottery system! Read all about it in my article I just published here! And if you're a geek check out the code for it on my GitHub repository here!

A video about this project coming soon!

Gene editing

This month our explore topic was Gene editing. We don't go deep on explore-topics, just deep enough to get an understanding of what it does, how to do it, what its applications are and possible consequences.

We even did a Gene editing workshop! I edited a cancer cell gene. The process was very confusing but worth it! I got a pretty good idea of what it would look like if I did this for projects. Definitely not going to do it xD.

I'll stay on the technology side of things

Mindset

The two mindsets that stuck with me this month were authenticity and seeking understanding.

People want to fit in, not be authentic because of the fear of controversy. Cancel culture doesn't help with that either. It's either right or wrong, smart or stupid. People don't try to seek understanding of someone else's opinion, they just need to bring them on their "side".

These two mindsets go hand in hand, although it doesn't look like it at first. Being authentic doesn't mean being yourself since you're right. It means to be yourself, while keeping your identity small, in every situation. You can be yourself (authentic) and have opinions, but don't make those opinions your identity.

Next month

These are my goals for the next month.

6am club

I'll be waking up at 6 am every day. Finally joining the early morning club. I'll most likely be spending this time reading, working on projects, working out etc.

I do understand how important sleep is (check podcast). So for Christmas Santa gave me a Fitbit to track my sleep :). My target is 8h during the week and during the weekend just sleep as long as I can to be fully rested.

Since I'm on avg an hour awake every night, I'll be spending 9h in bed. So that means phones off at 9 pm, which is hella early for me.

It'll be tough but so worth it!

Second replicate

I want to finish my second replicate next month, perhaps even the article! Don't even know what the second project will be. Will have to research it a bit!

More podcasts

Since I was busy studying this month for exams, I couldn't listen to as many podcasts as I wanted to. So next month you'll see a lot more of them in my newsletter :)
